Encouraging Students To Go Beyond Basic Tech Literacy

When it comes to education students should always possess the desire to learn as much as they possibly can. There are far too many people today who settle for the very minimal of basic tech literacy. The reason for this is because people are too lazy to learn what they can ask someone else to do. Most people use a computer on a daily basis, yet they truly know little about the machine they are operating. Sure we can all turn on our computers, log on to the internet, surf the web, send e-mails and pictures, but we have no clue how all of this stuff is actually happening. As long as the computer does what we want it to do we are happy, but if something goes wrong we are lost. Or if we are trying to upload something to our computer and are informed that we do not have the proper software or not enough space on our hard drive we don’t know what that means. The average citizen doesn’t, but there are those out there who do. These are the people we call and pay to tell us what is happening with our computer. Many times it is really nothing but we don’t know that. This is why students shouldn’t settle for basic technology literacy. They should learn as much as they can about technology and what networks, resolutions, megabytes, and bandwidth mean and what functions they perform. People who specialize in this area make very good money because of the ignorance of the average consumer. So when in class pay attention and learn as much as you can. Look at if from this point of view, the more you learn now the more you can make later.
